Basic vs Intelligent PDUs
Raritan’s development of both basic and intelligent PDUs have shaped power distribution in data centres, offering solutions for all projects from simple to the most complex.
Both have their advantages, but which one is best for you?
NX1 Basic PDUs
Raritan NX1 Basic PDUs are cemented as the reliable choice for off-the-shelf PDUs with High Density Outlet Technology (HDOT), reducing the number of PDUs needed, and lowering overall costs, space, and installation time.
The aluminium chassis and hydraulic magnetic circuit breakers can tolerate high temperatures up to 60℃, reducing the risk of tripping, integral when used with high density racks and/or HAC (hot aisle containment).
Auto-locking outlets provide safety against accidental disconnection, and a rotating input cord reduces tension to avoid damage.
Colour-coded circuits and chassis support easy identification, and some PDUs can be equipped with a local power meter, providing high visibility on all energy data.
NX1 Basic PDUs can also be configured with additional functions to suit your specific requirements, offering options including:
- Outlet types
- Numbering & colour-coding per circuit or full unit
- Form factor 0U, 1U
- Input type and cord length
PX4 Intelligent PDUs
Raritan PX4 Rack PDUs are designed with data centres in mind, catering to all requirements and future-proofing your technology.
Offering both HDOT and HDOT Cx outlets (future-ready UL tested hybrid of IEC C13 and C19 outlets), the PX4 anticipates the need for adaptable equipment that maximises space and flexibility.
RamLock Mechanical Locking secures C14 and C20 plugs without extra equipment and supports fast installation that prevents power cords being unintentionally unplugged.
Enhancing the intelligence of the PDU is the hot-swappable iX Controller with user-configurability, multiple connectivity ports, and multilayer redundancy or failover support. An auto-rotating display provides flexibility, allowing the PDU to be fed from the top or bottom.
The PX4 offers enhanced power quality monitoring with ±0.5% metering accuracy in:
- Critical power quality
- Energy efficiency
- Health of cabinet equipment
Measure and monitor total harmonic distortion with visualisations of voltage dips and swells, crest factor, and more. Waveform Capture provides screenshots of current and voltage waveforms so you can ensure your data centre’s rack power is running efficiently.
The Xerus Technology Platform provides high security, environmental sensors, asset management, and simple interoperability with third-party systems to deliver full visibility wherever you are.
The PX4 PDU can be customised to your needs with a variety of components available.
Raritan’s basic PDUs are more readily available and have shorter lead times if you are in need of a solution quickly. However, though intelligent PDUs take longer to manufacture and configure depending on the requirements, they are key in future-proofing your data centre and delivering high-quality insights.
Our sales team are able to offer advice on your needs and can help you design the most suitable PDU for your space.
